The Pain in the Shaving Kit

Do you know Men spend average 5 months of their life SHAVING...

As all of you are aware that in all of the Metros & Tier 2 cities in India people (yeah... I'm talking about Girls..) prefer guys who shave daily or atleast alternate days. The same holds good if you are face of any organization or business, people expect you to be fresh looking and pleasant, especially in sales.. Being a sales guy all my life I can tell you the size of your hair strands on you face could decide the distance between you and your coveted job.

What the Heck... We HAVE to shave...

In today's world we hardly have any time to spare for this activity and that too at the time when you are already behind schedule in the morning and are worried about exponentially increasing traffic with each passing second on the streets of Bangalore (or elsewhere...). You pickup your twin or three blade razor (which I used for over 3 years) and take a hasty swipe on the stubble. Now comes the pain I am blogging about, you realize that despite using the best (advertised) razor & gel/foam the shave is not comfortable, but it use to be comfortable after all you have been using the same brands for over 3 years.

Its especially painful if you are shaving after 2 - 3 days time. The main problem is that many hair strands get stuck between the blades and cause wire brush like effect on skin. Despite having cleaning feature in one leading brand (SensorXL - which I used for over 2 years), you can't get all the stuck hair out from between the blades and this causes enormous pain. After enduring the same for over 3 months (with various brands of razors and shaving gels...) ,
I finally switched to good old Single Blade..
The transition was smooth and so was the shave..
The closest shave ever... Heck... better than the triple blade.
No pain what so ever, No need of warm water to shave either... Doesn't matter if you have shaved 2 days back or 12...
The economy was purely incidental...

I loved this transition and even today I'm not ready to give away my single blade for any fancy multi blade or electric shaver.

My Wilkinson Razor with the Max blades give me the best shave and are easy to carry, clean and find in local market. I guess the message I wish to you give to all of you is that if you make the switch earlier, the better... Coz you need those 'Close Shaves' more in your 'hunting years' ;)

If you have been shaving for over an years its right time to make this transitions, otherwise continue using your beloved multi blades till you cross the magic number of 12 months, because this is the time when you are learning how to shave and twin blades are really a safe bet.

  • My suggestion for all of you is never shave backwards...
  • Never use twin blade (or even worse three blade) razor on the stubble which is over 3 days old.
  • Always use good quality shaving gel (I use Gillette).
  • Use warm water if available.
  • And... never shave in a hurry.
I hope this will be helpful...

HaPpy Shaving... I will be back with a post about 'Man Packs' and Fairness Creams....

Cheers...
